Description : It seems only fitting that the final Rodgers & Hammerstein collaboration was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When postulant Maria Rainer proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval officer, Captain von Trapp. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, clash with the Captain, his fiancee and eventually the Nazis as they seize power of her Austrian homeland. The well-known, Oscar-winning motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time. Featuring such classic songs as "Climb Every Mountain," "Do Re Mi", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and the enchanting title song "The Sound of Music," this is a timeless show worth reintroducing to your family again and again.
This play is suitable for all aduiences.

May, 01 , 2011
Location : 4014 walnut street,Philadelphia,PA-19104
Description : ANNE-MARIE MULGREW AND DANCERS COMPANY (AMM & DCO) celebrates its 25th season with the premiere of Le Dada va Gaga dans 2011 in conjunction with the citywide Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA)
This event is co-sponsored by The Rotunda, who is celebrating the building’s 100th Birthday. The event will take place in the rarely used sanctuary (front) space of The Rotunda
Le Dada is a dance-video site-specific traveling work created for The Rotunda’s rarely seen sanctuary built in 1911 by celebrated architects Carrere and Hastings. Choreography/direction/concept is by Anne-Marie Mulgrew, noted as “one of Philadelphia’s most conceptual and prolific dance makers.” (The Philadelphia Inquirer) This full-length work is created in corroboration with longtime collaborator/filmmaker Carmella Vassor-Johnson. Additional collaborators are costume designer Brian Strachan (constructed hats/long coats), photographer/videographer Stan Sadowski, and technical director Catherine Lee.
The cast features some of Philly’s finest dancers: Jacklyn Koch, Sarah Konner, Anne-Marie Mulgrew, Jodi Obeid, Leslie Ann Pike, Kate Speer and MC/Stiltwalker, Christine Morano plus surprise guests. Set to an eclectic soundscore of Parisian songs, classical, pop and uncategorized sounds, Le Dada invites audiences-of-all-ages to this adventure.
The program consists of a dozen short theatrical vignettes, dances and art installations inspired by the architecture of the space and the festival theme, Paris in 1911 moving towards 2011.
Highlights include: video projections on walls juxtaposed with live performance, a 2011 installation inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s notorious Etant Donnes, dancers clinging to doorways and walls, a pew dance, characters such as the lighted-hat lady who drops Kleenexs from the choir loft, a re-imagined version of Mulgrew’s 1992’s Earthborne featuring a woman on a ladder watching a stick dance, carousel like-dances using the fallen chandelier as a sculpture, unexpected scenarios and audience interaction.
Le Dada explores every nook and cranny of the glorious cathedral-like space. Le Dada aims to bring new awareness to the building’s architecture and history. The performance commences outside in the courtyard area at the front of the building. The audience is invited to follow the performers around the perimeters of the inside space guided by a MC/Narrator leading to more conventional seating in the round in the 100-year old pews.

Description : The 14 drummers of Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra and the 8 vocalists of Phillip Hamilton’s “Voices” have worked together to create a new collaborative work that pushes artistic boundaries while challenging cultural ones. An innovative and powerful model for creating new work, this process has been one of exploration, discovery and creation. Voice and drums are at the base of all cultural traditions as the most primal and expressive musical instruments. They are quite unique when joined, especially with these ensembles. Spoken Hand represents four different cultural traditions; each represented by a batterie, not a single instrument. Voices, has a similar uniqueness, in the range of elements they cover.
Spoken Hand: Since its inception fifteen years ago, this uniquely robust orchestra of percussionists has traveled the road on a journey to explore the new compositional possibilities in world music by fusing four percussion batteries into one distinct voice: North Indian tabla, Afro Cuban bata, Brazilian samba and West African djembe. Known for its high-energy live performances, audiences are literally swept up and away from their seats to travel to four corners of the globe. The sheer sonic force has shaken the foundation of countless houses and concert halls, leaving audiences in awe each time.
Voices: “Voices” is an original, a cappella performance group conceived by composer/vocalist Philip Hamilton. Hamilton created this group to take audiences on a vocal journey merging cultures, time periods and vocal styles.
