| Description: |
| Elm Street WILL be holding our annual Summer Drama Camps during the months of June and July this year – see dates below.
There are two camp age groups - Junior Campers ages 5-7 and Senior Campers ages 8-14
All campers will receive a t-shirt, script and a DVD of their final performance. Costuming is provided by Elm Street. Campers will see a Main Stage performance of either The Little Mermaid (June) or Aladdin and the Magic Lamp (July)
Each Camp Group will write produce and perform an original play with music in only 5 days! (yes it can be done!)
Along with their experienced instructors, campers will create characters, plot lines, song lyrics, costume designs, art projects and much more. Each script is tailored for that group of campers resulting in an individualized approach to a team activity. You can sign up for more than one camp week as each camp show is unique!
We do NOT have a ‘star system’ so all campers will have equal amounts of stage time and speaking lines.
Family and friends are welcome to see the final performances on Friday afternoon at no additional charge.

| Description: |
| “Convincing the Nation,” a new exhibit at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum, draws on historical artwork, archival material and artifacts to tell the story of the United States government’s efforts to capture people’s attention during World War II, as it sought public support and a cooperative home-front willing to put the needs of the nation before their own. Located in the Williams-Payne House at Heritage Green, the exhibit opens February 25 and will be on display through July 25.“Convincing the Nation” includes more than thirty posters from the 1940s that were used as a primary form of one-way communication before radio and television. While decorative at times, the posters were designed to grab attention and be easy to understand. While the urgent circumstances of war required home-front citizens to adjust their daily, peace-time routines, public officials understood that inducing behavior change would not be easy. They relied on large scale publicity efforts such as the printed posters to reach the public with wartime messages.“Persuading a rural community like Sandy Springs to produce more while consuming less was vital to winning the war,” said Museum Curator Kimberly Brigance. “These posters show how the US Government directly connected with common people and made every citizen a soldier.” Located in the changing galleries of the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum, the exhibit will feature historic posters and interpretive panels as well as cases displaying artifacts and other significant items. Visitors will be inspired by the stories of soldiers and ordinary people working together to win the war. |
