| Join an MTRP Trail Guide on a free guided nature walk from the Visitor Center and learn about the history, geology, plants, animals and ecology of the park. Trail Guides choose from three trails:1. The Oak Grove Trail leads to a small oak woodland with majestic coast live oaks and rare Engelmann oaks. 2. The Visitor Center Loop Trail takes you through coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and riparian woodland habitats. 3. The Riverside Grinding Rocks Trail leads to one of the archaeological sites in the park, where Kumeyaay Indians historically ground acorns on the rocks for food. Walks may also include the Native Plant Garden near the Visitor Center. These interpretive nature walks are offered to enhance your appreciation of our open space and the unique beauty of San Diego’s natural environment. Walks are free, open to the public with no reservations required, and will accommodate the physical or special needs of the group. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring along water. A hat and sunscreen are also recommended. Walk canceled if raining. |

Reading STARS Pre-K
Reading STARS is a program designed to enhance early reading and spelling skills of children in Pre-Kindergarten by training their awareness of sounds and letters through multi-sensory channels. We will play many fun-filled games and activities that will enhance children’s reading readiness skills in an environment that is encouraging and supportive, allowing children to progress at their own pace. Each day, children will learn to feel, describe and label sounds and letters through various multi-sensory activities, including pre-writing tasks, songs, stories, crafts, and games. Reading STARS provides children with the phonological awareness skills that are the foundation to effective reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding). Our creative, interactive activities excite the children to become engaged learners while having fun!
Reading STARS K-1st grade
Reading STARS is a program designed to enhance the reading and spelling skills of children in kindergarten and first grade by training their awareness of sounds and letters through multisensory modalities. We have created an expanded program for children in K-1st grades, which utilizes exemplary children’s literature as the theme for each class. The Reading STARS decoding and encoding targets will be incorporated into each class as will activities to facilitate listening comprehension, reading comprehension, reading fluency, expressive language, receptive language, and written language. Your child’s development along the emergent to fluent reader continuum will be determined to ensure that your child will be successful but challenged with the curriculum presented. Multisensory activities such as songs, art projects, various types of writing, guided reading and performing arts will be included in our class environment that is encouraging and supportive. It is our goal to have your child love reading and all it can offer!
